Institute for Excellence in Education Annual Conference

Members of the Department of Medicine were widely lauded at the Institute for Excellence in Education’s Annual Conference and celebration on Friday, April 17th.  Our faculty won almost every award offered this year! Please join us in congratulating the following award winners:

Scott Wright, MD, Professor of Medicine, director of the Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine, received the IEE Award for Mentoring Excellence in Education.

Khalil Ghanem, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and deputy director for Medical Education, won the Award for Teaching Excellence for a faculty member who has been on the faculty for more than 10 years.

Michael Melia, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and associate director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program, won the Award for Teaching Excellence for a faculty member who has been on the faculty for less than 10 years.

Mary Newman, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and president of Park Medical Associates, won the Award for Teaching Excellence for part-time faculty.

Rachel Levine, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and chair of the Women’s Task Force, won the IEE Award for Excellence in Educational Scholarship.

Robert Shochet, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine and director of the Colleges Advisory Program, won the IEE Educational Program Award for the development of the Learning Communities Institute.

Jessica Colburn, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics, won the Lisa J. Heiser Award for junior faculty contribution in education.

Heather Sateia, MD, Instructor in Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine, won the “shark tank” competition and received funding for her proposal: “High value care communication curriculum for internal medicine interns.”

The large number of award winners speaks to our depth of talented educators and commitment to education in the department. We are proud of them and all of the outstanding education happening on a daily basis.
