Who would you like to see recognized as the inaugural recipient of the Johns Hopkins Medicine Dean’s Distinguished Mentoring Award? We encourage you to nominate our department's superb mentors whose career has resulted in the mentoring of individuals who have gone on to establish independent, distinguished careers in academic medicine. Nominations are due by September 15, 2015.
Candidates for this new award should be outstanding senior faculty in the School of Medicine. Excellence in mentoring should include evidence of mentoring a range of individuals, including faculty and trainees, as well as evidence of the impact of the mentoring on these individuals' careers. Mentoring may include research training, classroom teaching, clinical training and faculty career development.
The JHM Dean’s Distinguished Mentoring Award will be presented in the late Fall of 2015 and the JHM Dean’s Distinguished Mentoring Award Lecture will be given in 2016 by an eminent person in a field related to the career interests of the award recipient.
Complete nominations will include: a letter outlining the rationale for the nomination, letters of support from two colleagues, letters of support from up to ten former trainees or mentored faculty, a complete list of people who have been mentored and the nominee's curriculum vitae. The nomination and supporting letters should address the following criteria:
- Documentation that the nominee is a model for collegiality, integrity and professionalism
- Evidence of mentoring skills
- Evidence of mentoring scope and impact
