Johns Hopkins approved to perform HIV-positive to HIV-positive organ transplants

Christine Durand, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, and Dorey Segev in the Department of Surgery are PIs on the NIH grant that will design and implement the clinical trial to do HIV-positive to HIV-positive organ transplants at multiple centers across the country.

Christine, along with Kieren Marr, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, will implement and coordinate the multicenter study at Johns Hopkins University through the ID Clinical Research Center (IDCRC),  directed by Kieren and Shmuel Shoham, associate professor in ID, with oversight in development and implementation provided largely by Darin Ostrander, program manager of Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases and the IDCRC.

This historical development is a prime example of multidisciplinary clinical care and leadership at JHU that reaches across the departments of surgery and medicine.
