The BCU will be participating in two large-scale preparedness activities in April. On April 5, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) will host a Region 3 tabletop exercise at Johns Hopkins to simulate the transport and transfer to Johns Hopkins of out-of-state patients infected with Ebola virus or other high consequence pathogens. On April 13, the BCU team, in collaboration with the Emergency Department (ED), Lifeline and CEPAR, will conduct a large-scale training exercise in which simulated patients with Ebola virus disease will be transported from the ED to the BCU. The goal of these exercises is to “stress the system” in order to identify and strengthen any potential gaps in our current preparedness plans.
