DOM Provider Satisfaction Assessment

The ever-evolving demands of healthcare delivery in academic medicine have resulted in both a challenging clinical practice environment and provider dissatisfaction for some in our department. Department of Medicine leadership aims to create an environment where our providers feel valued, understand their role in the larger context of Johns Hopkins Medicine and are motivated to provide the best patient care every day. Achieving this goal requires deeper understanding of drivers of dissatisfaction and barriers to effective, efficient workflows that facilitate a positive work environment.

The DOM Clinical Affairs team is planning an extended assessment of our providers’ experience. This fall, with the help of the Office of Organizational Development and Effectiveness, we will be conducting multiple focus groups with both inpatient and ambulatory providers at JHH and JHBMC. These groups will inform a faculty-wide survey and will result in concrete action plans for improvement in our practice experience.

The focus groups will begin within the month and continue through the fall. Providers interested in participating in one of these focus groups should contact Helen Harrison (nharri35@jhmi.edu).
