As of January 1, Anika Alvanzo, assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, has transitioned into the role of president of the Maryland Society of Addiction Medicine (MDSAM). She was also elected to the Board of Directors for the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). She will serve as regional director for Region V, which includes Delaware, Washington D.C., Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. Her term begins in April.
