Medicine Matters Home Patient Care Starting the New Year Off Right

Starting the New Year Off Right

The new year is off to a good start for the Biocontainment Unit. The nurses participated in their quarterly training session this month. Using a mannequin and other equipment from the Simulation Center, the nurses were able to practice physical assessment with a digital stethoscope, specimen collection from a central line, central line dressing changes and other routine patient care activities. The unit's autoclaves were in full swing as the nurses practiced loading trash while following careful infection control practices. Our radiology technologists and respiratory therapists also completed their quarterly PPE validation this month.

Our next quarterly staff meeting will be on Friday, February 24 from 9-11 a.m. in Halsted 819. Please contact Jordan Hughes ([email protected]) if you would like to attend.
