Third Thursdays with the ICTR

The Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is debuting a new lecture series, “Third Thursdays with the ICTR.” Each month, speakers will share research-related news and showcase a resource and/or service that can aid clinical research study team members. The next lecture is Thursday, April 20 from 1– 2 p.m. in the Wood Basic Science Building West Lecture Hall.

In 2014, the ICTR established three Translational Research Communities (TRCs):

  1. Drugs/Biologics/Vaccines/Devices
  2. Behavioral, Social and Systems Science
  3. Biomarkers and Diagnostic Testing

The goals of the Translational Research Communities (TRCs) are to improve the quality, innovation and impact of translational products created by JHU research teams. A secondary aim is to bring value and career satisfaction to JHU researchers. Each TRC identifies and prioritizes the most pressing translational problems faced by the community and then develops annual events and pilot funding to enhance the research environment and capacity for success. These events and funding opportunities encourage new collaborations and facilitate connections to other resources and activities within the ICTR and the larger JHU research institution.

On April 20, Drugs/Biologics/Vaccines/Devices TRC Co-Leaders Clifford Weiss, MD, and Barbara Slusher, PhD, will discuss the feedback collected from recent needs assessments sent out by each of the three TRCs and how this information impacts our focus and initiatives going forward, as well as an overview of what the TRCs have accomplished in the past four years. We especially encourage people who did not receive a survey to attend to provide their perspective of the JHU research environment. Your input is essential to our programmatic planning.
