Richard Chaisson, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, was invited to participate in the Lancet Commission on Tuberculosis in order to synthesize existing epidemiologic and economic analysis to demonstrate why we need to invest more in TB programs and research. The commission was established by Lancet editor Richard Horton and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Tuberculosis, Eric Goosby, former U.S. Global AIDS Ambassador and professor at UCSF. The commission will meet three times to review evidence for strengthening global TB control and developing recommendations to be presented at the 2018 UN General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on TB.
