The 2018 National Conference of the High Value Practice Academic Alliance, sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, will be held on Sept. 21-23 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Abstracts describing high-value quality improvement initiatives and educational curricula are now being accepted. The abstract submission deadline is April 1, 2018. More information is available on the HVPAA website:

​The mission of the HVPAA annual conference is to broadly advance quality improvement initiatives that have safely improved health care value, investigate outcomes to ensure that practice refinement maintains or improves diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy and identify effective methodologies to improve the value of care providers deliver.​ The 2017 HVPAA conference showcased innovative value-improvement work from 50 academic institutions and was attended by representatives from 70 medical centers across the United States and Canada. For the 2018 conference, abstract submission categories include:

  • ​Improving appropriateness of diagnostic or screening services (consultations, labs, imaging exams, cardiac telemetry, EEG, echocardiography, etc.)
  • Improving appropriateness of treatment/interventional services (medications, transfusions, endoscopy, interventional radiology, surgery, etc.)
  • Clinical care pathways or reducing unwarranted practice variability
  • Optimization of patient care setting or improving discharge transitions
  • Preventive medicine or evidence-based screening
  • Provider behavior modification (comparative effectiveness of interventions) or information technology innovations
  • High value care educational curricula (medical school, graduate medical education, continuing medical education, continuing professional education)
