The MERIT program is in search of clinicians to sign-up for three-hour shadowing sessions (9 a.m.–noon or 1–4 p.m.) from June 25- July 26, on any dates/times that work for their schedules.
Laboratory preceptors can sign-up for three-hour shadowing sessions (9 a.m.–noon or 1–4 p.m.) to host a scholar every day, Monday–Friday from June 25- July 25.

MERIT Health Leadership Academy is a non-profit organization that partners with Hopkins to transform Baltimore City high school scholars into health care leaders. We are currently recruiting clinicians to serve as summer preceptors.

Why should I participate?
- The program allows our MERIT students to have a real-life experience in the health care field. By serving as a preceptor, you can provide this life changing opportunity.
- 100% of MERIT Scholars go on to 4-year colleges. Last year MERIT Scholars earned full scholarships to Brown, Johns Hopkins, Howard and other elite institutions.
What is my role as a preceptor?
Allow MERIT Scholars to shadow you as you work for short periods of time.

Research Opportunities for MERIT Scholars
Who can serve as a preceptor?
- Graduate students
- Post-docs
- Research assistants
- Any other lab staff willing to mentor and supervise a high school student
What is my role as a preceptor?
- The preceptor will allow the MERIT Scholar to assist with any projects being done in the lab. MERIT teaches scholars common lab techniques including but not limited to, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE gel, Western Blot and more!
- Support the student in preparation for a research poster presentation at the annual Hopkins C.A.R.E.S. Symposium on Thursday, July 26.
What is the time commitment and how do I sign up?
- Three hours per day from June 25–July 25
