David Pearse, professor in the Division of Pulmonary, will be stepping down as chair of the Department of Medicine Appointments and Promotions Committee. Dave succeeded Richard Moore in 2013, and he has been instrumental in the successful promotions of an impressive number of associate professors and professors over the past five years. During his tenure, he has moved the committee into a highly visible position while working with the Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Promotions to advise individual faculty members striving to be promoted. We are extremely gratful to Dave for his dedication not only to the committee, but to the faulty members he has aided during the often arduous process of being promoted.
With his departure, we begin the process of recruiting a new chair:
The Department of Medicine is seeking a new chair to lead the departmental promotions committee. The DOM Appointments and Promotions Committee reviews the promotional materials for all faculty after divisional review and prior to submission to the Associate Professor Promotion Committee (APPC) or Professor Promotion Committee (PPC). The chair provides important service and leadership to departmental faculty by leading the committee, assigning applications to committee members for review, reviewing applications, summarizing committee discussions in a recommendation letter to the department director and meeting with faculty for advice regarding promotion. The term for this position is five years, and will be accompanied by 10 percent support, based on fixed salary. Candidates should be at the rank of professor, and experience on the departmental promotions committee, the APPC or PPC is preferred. Please send your CV and cover letter to Holly Sellers ([email protected]) by Friday, June 29.
