Rounding Out the Summer

The BCU is rounding out its quarterly validations for the month of August. Twenty-six nurses, eight laboratory technicians, six respiratory therapists, three radiology technicians, 17 providers and 13 infection control personnel completed over 200 total hours of training. One of the more fun training objectives included the annual fire extinguisher training with personnel from the Office of Health and Safety. Our staff members train for a variety emergency events including evacuation and fire safety.

The BCU also opened its doors to our summer volunteers for a tour. These high school students, some interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare field, learned about the unique features of the BCU and its role in hospital and emergency preparedness. We also hosted our colleagues from Supply Chain and Linen who were interested to know the safety measures of an activated BCU as well as the possible impact it may have on daily hospital operations and the local community.
