Tariq Shafi has accepted the position of Division Director and Bower Chair of Nephrology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) Department of Medicine.
Tariq came to Hopkins in 2005 to pursue a nephrology fellowship, and has been a member of the Division of Nephrology ever since. While completing his fellowship, he went on to earn a Master of Health Sciences in clinical epidemiology at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Tariq has proven to be an asset to Hopkins both as an associate professor in the Department of Medicine and as core faculty for the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research. He also serves as medical director of the Johns Hopkins Home Hemodialysis program and leads point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) research as a Johns Hopkins Center of Innovative Medicine Scholar. In addition to his own research, he developed a curriculum for nephrology fellows to learn POCUS skills, and has proven to be a valued mentor.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Shafi on his new role and wishing him well during his move to Mississippi over the next few months. It is clear that UMMC has gained a true expert in education, research and patient care.
