Three Cardiology Faculty Named to Endowed Chairs

I am pleased to share the news that the Johns Hopkins University Board of Trustees has recently approved the appointments of three distinguished Cardiology faculty to new and existing endowed chairs within the division.

Ron Berger will now hold the Nicholas J. Fortuin Professorship in Cardiology. We are thrilled to be able to recognize his decades of outstanding service and leadership to the division with this endowed chair.

Hugh Calkins has been appointed as the first Catherine Ellen Poindexter Professor in Cardiology. The Poindexter Professorship is a new professorship established through a generous gift from donors Marilyn and Chris Poindexter, in honor of their late granddaughter Catherine. Hugh will be installed as the Poindexter Professor at a ceremony in Hurd Hall on August 8: more details will be forthcoming.

Brian O’Rourke will assume the Robert L. Levy Professorship in Cardiology, previously held by Lew Becker, who retired on June 30th and will continue on part-time status to carry out his research.

Please join me in congratulating Ron, Hugh and Brian on their appointments.
