Dr. Kavita Sharma, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology, has been selected to be the new Director of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation.
Dr. Sharma obtained her medical degree from the University of Virginia. She came to Hopkins to complete her residency and served as an Assistant Chief of Service before becoming a cardiology fellow and advanced HF/transplant fellow. Her research focuses on heart failure with preserved ejection fraction or HFpEF. She has received a JHU Clinician Scientist Award and is a member of the AHA Strategically Focused Research Network for Go Red For Women. She is the national PI for the PARAGLIDE-HF and FINEARTS-HF clinical trials.
As the new Director of Heart Failure, Dr. Sharma and her team will work closely with cardiac surgery colleagues to develop transplant and mechanical circulatory support programs, and to expand cardiac transplant and LVAD cases. She will work with her team to expand the Hereditary Cardiomyopathy Program, Cardiac Sarcoid Program, Cardiac Amyloidosis Program, Cardio-Oncology Program and her own HFpEF Program. She will also oversee all clinical and clinical research activities of our heart failure teams across JHM. She will develop clinical protocols, performance objectives, productivity benchmarks, and provider workflow planning.
