Dr. Garima Sharma, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology, is vice chair for the newly released American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Statement on Maternal Health Policy. The committee took into consideration public health policy, data aggregation, advocacy bills, Medicaid reimbursement and maternal and reproductive health science dating back to the 1920s.
This is the first scientific statement that is supported by two other science organizations: the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Dr. Sharma hopes it will help advance maternal cardiovascular and reproductive health in the United States and reduce health inequities.
