Dr. Erica Johnson, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and program director of the Bayview Internal Medicine Residency, was named the Associate Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Education for the Department of Medicine effective September 1, 2021.
In this role, Dr. Johnson will be responsible to develop and oversee the implementation of strategies to enhance the number and success of underrepresented in medicine (UIM) trainees across the DOM. She will work collaboratively with program directors and other education and diversity, equity and inclusion leaders across Hopkins to develop measurable outcomes that help us define success in these efforts. She will also work closely with the Associate Vice Chair for Diversity and Inclusion (Dr. Risha Irvin) and will report to the next Vice Chair for Education (Dr. Heather Sateia, interim director).
As director of the Bayview Residency Program, Dr. Johnson has demonstrated her deep commitment to education and to creating an environment to recruit, retain and promote trainees under-represented in medicine. We are excited to see the positive impact she will have on not only our training programs, but our department overall.
