Ambulatory: Telemedicine Hot Topics – States of Emergency Telehealth Services Expiring [Data as of 11/12/21, 6 PM]

  • The National Public Health Emergency [PHE] has been extended to mid-January 2022. Emergency orders/states of emergency have expired in many states, affecting providers’ ability to perform telemedicine visits for out-of-state patients:
    • New Jersey: licensure waiver extension to January 11, 2022
    • New York: expired 11/26/21
    • Pennsylvania: licensure waiver extension to March 31, 2022
    • Washington, D.C.: licensure waiver extension to August 10, 2022. Provider must attest that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 here.
  • Refer to legal FAQs for information related to individual state waivers and licensing requirements.
  • Direct general questions to JHM Telemedicine or legal-specific questions to Telemedicine Legal.

Ambulatory: NEW Telemedicine Features: Chat, eSign and Improved Link Sharing

  • Chat functionality: This enables staff to communicate with patients in the waiting room without having to use camera/microphone, and is also helpful when there are audio problems.
    • Note: Chat is NOT saved as part of the medical record and should not be relied upon for clinical documentation.
  • eSign consents: Send Telemedicine and Outpatient Agreement forms for signature via MyChart when eCheck-in hasn’t been completed rather than using a SmartPhrase to document verbal consent.
  • Send video visit links via text or email: In the Rooming tab (1), click the new “Send Video Visit Link activity” (2) or “Send Link” header (A) to quickly text and email your patient or proxy the video link. Screenshot in the document here.
  • Details are here and in the Blog post.

Ambulatory: iOS USERS TAKE NOTE!! Apple iOS 15.1 and 15.1.1 Impacting Cisco Webex

  • Apple users should NOT update to iOS 15.1 or 15.1.1, especially if you use your device for telemedicine. This is affecting all browsers (Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox) on all upgraded devices.
  • If you have upgraded, switch to a device not updated. If you or your patient do not have another device, switch to using JH Zoom. What you will see on your upgraded device: screenshot in the document here.
  • Android users are not affected.
  • Telemedicine team will provide an update when the issue is resolved.
  • It is recommended that you update your device to the latest version of Haiku – version 9.8.

  • Review the blog post here.
