Updates from the Faculty Senate September 2022 Meeting

  • Congratulations again to Dr. Wendy Bennett, associate professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, on being nominated and elected as the Faculty Senate Secretary
  • The other two DOM Senators are Dr. Gigi Liu, assistant professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at JHH, and Dr.  David N. Hager, associate professor in the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine
  • Please email any of us with questions/comments/concerns that you may want us to share with the Faculty Senate
  • JHU Communications is looking for input regarding getting people back to campus. Please consider completed the 3 minute survey: Survey link
  • Efforts to increase faculty compensation were presented
    • Minimal target standard of 40th percentile among peer institutions
    • Model includes credit for grant funding (federal and non-federal sources)
    • Model includes credit for clinical work
  • Update to Senate by the Johns Hopkins Clinical Alliance (presented by Sarah Conway and Frank Shipp)
    • JHCA is a clinically integrated network, a network of providers that work together to deliver high quality, cost-effective care
    • JHCA will negotiate with payors for value-based programs that reward high value care delivery
    • JHCA includes:
      • A physician-led governance model made up of employed and select independent physicians
      • A quality and performance management committee
      • A contracts and finance committee
    • JHCA will provide infrastructure to aggregate, track and share data on network quality and cost performance and to support coordination of care across the provider network
  • Update from Sustainability Leadership Council at JHU
    • The SLC joins students, faculty, staff, and alumni to further sustainability initiatives across research, academics, operations and engagement

    • They want to increase membership form the SOM
    • Want JHU to be an international leader in sustainability
  • Dr. Cindy Rand reported that the results of the Faculty Satisfaction Survey will be forthcoming. Results next month.

The DOM Senators are always happy to talk with you about your concerns and suggestions. Some of the major issues the Senate is working on: JHU Police Force, Funds Flow changes, Carefirst negotiations, parental leave policy and more.
