Dr. Seth Martin, professor in the Division of Cardiology, is the new firm faculty leader for the Barker Firm of the Osler Medical Residency. Dr. Martin has succeeded Dr. John Sperati in mentoring the residents on the Barker Firm. Dr. Martin has been part of the Osler Medical Residency since 2015 when he joined the Janeway Firm Faculty. He then became a Firm Faculty Clinical Coach, mentoring numerous interns and residents. In 2020, he was awarded the DOM's Frederick L. Brancati Excellence in Mentoring Award.
Dr. Martin earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania before completing an internal medicine residency at Duke University. He joined Hopkins in 2011 to complete a fellowship in the Division of Cardiology. After joining the faculty, Dr. Martin began attending on general cardiology services in addition to leading the Ciccarone Center’s Lipid Clinic. His research focuses on preventive cardiology and the intersections of digital/mobile health technology, lipidology, health equity, big data and precision medicine. Dr. Martin led the development of an improved low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol algorithm that has been used in clinical practice for more than one billion patients around the world following its adoption by clinical guidelines and major laboratories. He and his team developed the Corrie Health digital platform to improve guideline-directed cardiovascular care, which is being scaled with funding from the American Heart Association. We look forward to the future of the Barker Firm under his direction.
We are grateful for Dr. Sperati’s 14 years of leadership of the Barker Firm. He has mentored countless residents, ACSs and faculty, and we look forward to his continued work with the Osler Medical Residency.
