Seeking Next Director of the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health invite applications from current Johns Hopkins faculty for the Director of the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research.

Since its inception 30 years ago, the Welch Center has been a preeminent interdisciplinary research and training unit administered by the School of Medicine (Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine) and Bloomberg School of Public Health (Department of Epidemiology), engaging faculty and students across the University. In this dynamic period driven by emerging approaches in biology, data science, equity, and communication, the mission of the Welch Center - conducting world-class epidemiologic, clinical, and translational research and training top researchers and scholars in the next generation -is more critical than ever.

The Director of the Welch Center will be an entrepreneurial scientist with a track record of innovative and impactful interdisciplinary research, teaching, and programmatic leadership. The next Director will have the exciting opportunity to lead the Center in pursuing its mission-critical goals and expanding its impact beyond current supporting units.

Specifically, the Welch Center Director will:

  • Lead strategic planning efforts of the Welch Center in support its dual mission
  • Represent the Welch Center in SOM, BSPH, and JHU administrative and programmatic processes that advance interdisciplinary research and training at Johns Hopkins
  • Lead the recruitment and mentoring, of a diverse and committed Welch Center faculty
  • Shape the organizational structure and research infrastructure to better support the faculty and trainees to achieve their goals
  • Nurture the vibrant, collaborative, and professionally rewarding culture
  • Develop and manage the Welch Center budget
  • Engage in philanthropic efforts to support the Welch Center and its participating or supporting academic units
  • Supervise the Welch Center Office Manager and Communications Specialist

This search seeks applications from an intellectually diverse set of candidates. There are not pre-conceived qualifications regarding specific type of prior training, degrees, or research areas.
