Ageism Awareness Day is an opportunity to draw attention to the impact of ageism in our society and how we can reframe aging in our communities. According to Dr. Becca Levy’s research at Yale University that looked into eight health conditions prevalent among seniors, the one-year cost of ageism was $63 billion, or one of every seven dollars spent on the eight health conditions on which the study focused. Also, the research model suggests that ageism resulted in 17.04 million cases of these health conditions.

On September 7, 2023, Dr. Colleen Christmas, associate professor in the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology, gave a grand rounds talk on ageism discussing the harmful effects of ageism, ageism interventions and how to mitigate ageism as an individual and team. Watch her talk below:
