Hynes Named to NASEM Committee

Dr. Noreen Hynes, associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, has been named to a consensus study under the Health and Medicine Division of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM): Current State of Research, Development, and Stockpiling of Smallpox Medical Countermeasures. The ad hoc committee will conduct a study to examine lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and mpox multi-country outbreak to inform an evaluation of the current state of research, development and stockpiling of smallpox medical countermeasures. The Department of Health and Human Services will use the data from the study to inform the U.S. government's preparation for the World Health Assembly meeting in May 2024.
