Mary Jo Appel will step down as Associate Administrator of Ambulatory Operations and Access on September 3, 2024. Jamison Kies has been selected to fill the role.
Mary Jo Appel came to Hopkins to serve as Assistant Administrator for the Wilmer Eye Institute in 2012 and has spent the past seven years leading ambulatory operations in the DOM. During that time, she has taken on the challenges of managing day-to-day outpatient operations while partnering with division directors and administrators to implement effective solutions. This became especially challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Mary Jo took the changes in stride and helped lead the DOM’s transition to a telemedicine environment and consolidated clinic operations, ensuring thousands of patients could continue their care. We are incredibly grateful to Mary Jo for her leadership and vision, and she will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in retirement and are grateful she will not be too far when working with the Division of Infectious Diseases.
Jamison Kies will step in as Director of Ambulatory Operations and Patient Access upon Mary Jo’s departure. She earned a Master of Health Administration from Johns Hopkins University in 2018 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015. After completing her administrative residency at GBMC, she joined Johns Hopkins in the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2018 as the Ambulatory Services Manager. Her position grew along with the expansion of clinical services managed by the division, most recently serving as GIM’s Sr. Administrative Manager supporting the division’s clinical operations inclusive of primary care, palliative medicine and obesity medicine services. Jamison has been involved in various primary care and departmental workgroups and initiatives over the years, including advanced scheduling redesigns and template management initiatives. She is currently serving as an ex officio member of the inaugural JHU Staff Advisory Council after having served on the Staff Advisory Council Planning Group as a School of Medicine representative. Please join us in welcoming Jamison to her new role in the DOM.
