Clark to Step Down as Division Director

Dr. Jeanne Clark will step down as director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at JHH to become the Chair of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School on October 1, 2024.

Dr. Clark was a prominent figure in the Department of Medicine long before she began her tenure as division director in 2013. She came to Hopkins as a fellow in 1997 and joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine in 2000. A few years later, she became the division’s fellowship director before chairing the DOM’s Task Force on Women’s Academic Careers in Medicine from 2008-2012. During that time, she solidified her standing as a renowned mentor and was even honored with the task force’s inaugural Annual Sponsorship Award in 2015. In addition, Dr. Clark has demonstrated a profound commitment to community health, particularly in Baltimore, as executive director of the Brancati Center for the Advancement of Community Care. She has been a key investigator in several multi-center, landmark trials including the Diabetes Prevention Program trial (DPP), the Practice-based Opportunities for Weight Reduction trial (POWER) and the Action for Health in Diabetes trial (Look AHEAD).

Dr. Clark has had an immense impact on the DOM, and it is difficult to imagine Johns Hopkins without her presence. We are thankful for her influence and wish her all the best in the future. We are also very grateful to Dr. Bimal Ashar, who as agreed to step in as interim director during this transition. We are confident his leadership experience as clinical director of GIM will serve him well in this new role.
