The Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund (MSCRF) is focused on identifying and fostering cutting-edge research and innovation in the field of regenerative medicine in Maryland. Since 2007, MSCRF has invested close to $200 million in accelerating stem cell research, cures and commercialization, in addition to building a collaborative stem cell community in our region.
Four from the DOM were among the 2025 awardees:
Dr. Brian O'Rourke, professor in the Division of Cardiology, will study: "Discovery of Cell Cycle Activators to Promote Myocardial Regeneration and Contractile Function in Human Engineered Heart Muscles"
Dr. Linda Resar, professor in the Division of Hematology, will study: "Targeting HMGA1 Stem Cell Networks to Prevent Atherosclerosis in TET2 Clonal Hematopoiesis"
Dr. Marios Arvanitis, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology, will study: "The Role of Fate-Determining Transcription Factor REST in Endothelial Differentiation"
Dr. Priya Umapathi, assistant professor in the Division of Cardiology, will study: "Clinical Trial in a Dish: Identifying Novel Molecular Mechanisms and Translating Therapies for Lamin Cardiomyopathy"
