Gebo Named Dean of George Washington University

Dr. Kelly Gebo, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and deputy director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, will be leaving Johns Hopkins Sept. 30 to become the Michael and Lori Milken Dean of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University.

Dr. Gebo completed her undergraduate, medical school, internal medicine and infectious diseases training here at Johns Hopkins and joined our faculty in 2001. During her 24 years of service at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Gebo has made significant contributions, establishing a distinguished record in academic leadership, research and teaching. Throughout her tenure, she has held pivotal leadership positions, including the university’s inaugural vice provost for education, director of the Johns Hopkins Infectious Diseases Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and director of the Public Health Undergraduate Studies Program — a collaboration between the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Currently, she directs the KL-2 Clinical Research Scholars Program, which trains scholars for independent careers in clinical and translational research.

In addition to her leadership roles, Dr. Gebo has been an exceptional clinical researcher in the fields of HIV, COVID and mpox, and an incredible mentor to students, trainees and junior faculty in the fields of infectious diseases and health services. Her dedication to mentoring was recognized with the prestigious David M. Levine Excellence in Mentoring Award.

We extend our sincerest gratitude to Dr. Gebo for her numerous contributions to Johns Hopkins, and wish her all the best in this exciting new chapter of her career.
