Cervantes Named Nephrology Fellowship Director

Dr. Elena Cervantes, assistant professor in the Division of Nephrology, was recently named the program director for the Nephrology Fellowship.

Dr. Cervantes joined Hopkins as a fellow in 2019 before becoming a clinical associate in the Division of Nephrology as well as an attending physician at the Fresenius Caroline Street Dialysis Unit. She is also a member of the Johns Hopkins Amyloid Center. Dedicated to medical education, she co-directed the Genes to Society Renal Physiology Course from 2021 to 2025 and previously served as Assistant Program Director for the fellowship, leading efforts in career pathway development. Her clinical and research interests include amyloidosis, paraproteinemias, hypertension, diabetic kidney disease, and quality improvement.

Dr. Cervantes was selected for the 14th cohort of the Armstrong Institute Patient Safety and Quality Leadership Academy and the 3rd cohort of the International Society of Nephrology Emerging Leaders Program, reflecting her commitment to quality, advocacy, and global health.

We'd like to thank Dr. John Sperati, associate professor in the Division of Nephrology, who has expertly led the Nephrology Fellowship Program since 2019.
