Dr. Kim Peairs, associate professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, has been named interim executive director of educational program compliance for the School of Medicine Compliance Office, effective Sept. 1. The Compliance Office is a newly established office under the purview of the Office of the Dean. Dr. Peairs will have a strong, collaborative relationship with the JHU Office of General Counsel. This is a critical new role that aligns with our deep and continuing commitment to adhere to all legal and regulatory standards in educational programs and institutional resource groups as required by federal nondiscrimination laws.
In her new role, Dr. Peairs is responsible for oversight, maintenance, and monitoring of the SOM’s compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and ethical standards, specifically as they relate to nondiscrimination obligations in educational programs and institutional resource groups. She will engage directly with department and division leadership, program leaders, and other stakeholders as we move toward strengthening our compliance framework. The educational programs and resource groups covered by this role and the Compliance Office include admissions for medical and graduate school, residency and clinical fellowship programs, research fellowships, graduate programs, postdoctoral research scholar programs, summer internships, student rotations, visiting electives, pathways programs, and faculty, staff, and learner resource groups. As a first priority, Dr. Peairs will focus primarily on residency and clinical fellowship programs, visiting electives, summer internships, and pathways programs. She will support the refinement and implementation of compliance policies, procedures, guidelines and training materials to ensure adherence to nondiscrimination requirements.
Dr. Peairs is a highly respected faculty leader and a member of the Miller Coulson Academy for Clinical Excellence. Her leadership experience at Johns Hopkins includes her vice chair role as well as her position as Medical Director for Primary Care Value and Innovation in the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians.
