We are pleased to announce that Janet Record will assume the position of assistant dean for undergraduate medical education, effective July 1.
Dr. Record is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine and the division of hospital medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She has had a number of important leadership roles in the medical school in curriculum development, student advising, program evaluation, and patient-centered care.
Dr. Record earned her B.A. in biology and music from Baylor University, graduating summa cum laude in 1998. In 2003, she earned her M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. Dr. Record then came to Johns Hopkins for residency training in internal medicine, later serving as Assistant Chief of Service and joining the faculty in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in 2007.
Dr. Record serves as the associate director of curriculum and co-director of faculty development activities for the Johns Hopkins Aliki Initiative, a novel curriculum focused on patient-centered care. She also directs the advanced clerkship in internal medicine and serves as the director of medical student education at Johns Hopkins Bayview. Since 2013, Dr. Record has been a core faculty member in Sabin College in the Colleges Advisory Program and she has been a member of the Student Assessment and Program Evaluation Committee in the school of medicine. Dr. Record served as chair of the curriculum task force that was established to develop an advanced ambulatory experience in the M.D. curriculum, and in 2017 she became the director of the advanced ambulatory clerkship pilot experience.
As assistant dean for undergraduate medical education, Dr. Record will work closely with the associate dean for undergraduate medical education to provide oversight for the medical student experience, focusing on the non-clerkship M.D. curriculum in the school of medicine.
