Ahima Named 2022 Farr Lecturer

Dr. Rexford Ahima, professor and director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, recently gave the 2022 Farr Lecture as part of Student Research Day at the Yale School of Medicine. The Lee E. Farr M.D. Endowed Lectureship was established in 1988 by Dr. Lee E. Farr. The purpose of this lectureship is “to stimulate thinking and to inspire students to strive to achieve more effective leadership and educational roles in society.”

Dr. Farr, Yale College '29, MD '33, was a preeminent physician who was the medical director and physician-in-chief of the hospital at Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island, New York, where he participated in the design of the world's first nuclear reactor built primarily for medical purposes. He was one of the original specialists in nuclear medicine and practiced and taught at various times in Delaware, New York, Texas, California, and Oregon.

Dr. Ahima joins a long list of influential investigators to give the lecture, including Dr. Paul Greengard, who won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 2000, and Dr. Jeffrey Friedman, who received the 2010 Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award.
