Venous Thromboembolism Risk Assessment and Prophylaxis

We are excited to share an important update regarding the ongoing efforts to improve venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention across JHHS. As part of the JHM VTE Prevention Workgroup initiative, led by Drs. Amy Chused, Michael Streiff, professor in the Division of Hematology, and Elliott Haut, a Systemwide effort is underway to enhance risk assessment procedures and ensure appropriate prescription of prophylaxis for our hospitalized patients.

Currently, a pilot study is being conducted and results have been encouraging. We are preparing for the next phase involving an upgrade to our Epic system that will optimize how we assess VTE risk and prescribe prophylaxis for all adult inpatient admissions.
