Durso Named DOM Director of Clinical Bedside Skills at Bayview

After serving as Director of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center since 2020, Dr. Chris Durso will step down to become the DOM Director of Clinical Bedside Skills at Bayview. Please join us in expressing our sincere gratitude for his exceptional leadership as well as his transformative contributions that have strengthened our department and advanced our mission.

During his tenure as director, Dr. Durso, built strong partnerships between JHBMC and the SOM through regular joint leadership meetings and strategic planning. He also guided career development for numerous faculty and supported leadership transitions in key programs, including the Bayview Internal Medicine Residency Program and Palliative Medicine. He has maintained active bedside teaching, led clerkship and residency initiatives, and improved inpatient operations through close collaboration with clinical teams. Dr. Durso even secured significant philanthropic support—including a $2.5M pledge—and stewarded endowed positions to fuel innovation and program expansion. He also promoted community initiatives and supported Medicine for the Greater Good programs. As an investigator, he has published impactful research, contributed to major textbooks, and advanced projects such as the clinical note quality initiative.

Later this fiscal year, Dr. Durso will transition to his new roles as DOM Director of Clinical Bedside Skills at Bayview and Director of Credentialing for JHH, where his expertise will continue to shape the future of our department. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Durso on his remarkable contributions and wishing him continued success in his new roles.

In the coming weeks, we will issue a RFA for the position of Director of the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.
