The Johns Hopkins Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is celebrating its 20th year hosting the Housestaff Research Awards. This nationwide competition is designed to recognize and honor exceptional research contributions by medical residents. These awards were established two decades ago to highlight impactful research while inspiring future leaders in academic GIM.
Each year, up to five housestaff who have conducted outstanding research in these key areas are honored:
- Randol Barker — David E. Kern Award, for achievement in medical education research
- Eric B. Bass — Karen A. Robinson Award, for achievement in evidence-based medicine and systematic reviews
- Lisa A. Cooper — Nisa M. Maruthur Award, for achievement in behavioral medicine and health disparities research
- Daniel E. Ford — Jodi B. Segal Award, for achievement in health services and outcomes research
- Mary Catherine Beach — Jeremy Sugarman Award, for achievement in bioethics research
This year's recipients are:
- Maxwell Droznin, MD, MPH
- PGY3 – Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Internal Medicine
- Bass-Robinson Awardee
- Michael Liu, MD, MPhil
- PGY1 – Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Internal Medicine-Primary Care
- Cooper-Maruthur Awardee
- Rohan Khazanchi, MD, MPH
- PGY4 – Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, Internal Medicine-Pediatrics
- Ford-Segal Awardee
Winners will present their award-winning abstracts at a special ceremony on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in The Johns Hopkins Hospital’s Cader Room (Harvey 508).
