Two Department of Medicine trainees received awards during the American Heart Association EPI/Lifestyle 2015 Scientific Sessions held in Baltimore March 4 – 6. The goal of the meeting is to promote the development and application of translational and population science to prevent heart disease and stroke and foster cardiovascular health.
Stephen Juraschek, MD, PhD, an Osler JAR, won the Jeremiah and Rose Stamler Research Award for New Investigators, designed to recognize and stimulate excellence in research by investigators in training. His abstract, "The Effects of Carbohydrate Amount and Type on Kidney Function in Healthy Adults: Results From the Omnicarb Trial," also included DOM faculty, Larry Appel, Deidra Crews, and Edgar Miller.
Seth Martin, MD, a cardiology fellow, won the Steven N. Blair Excellence in Physical Activity Research Award, designed to recognize a highly meritorious abstract presentation in physical activity and to stimulate excellence in research by investigators. His abstract, "mActive: A Blinded, Randomized mHealth Trial Supporting Digital Tracking and Smart Texting for Promotion of Physical Activity," included additional DOM faculty, Roger Blumenthal, Steven Jones, Wendy Post, Chiadi Ndumele, Elizabeth Ratchford, and Michael Blaha.
