Sara Cosgrove, associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and director of the Johns Hopkins Antimicrobial Stewardship Program was selected by the White House to help address solutions to the ever-growing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
Dr. Cosgrove, along with more than 150 stakeholders in the field, outlined current and future contributions to antibiotic stewardship as part of a White House initiative. This work will be part of a federal plan to implement changes over the next five years to slow the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, detect resistant strains, preserve the efficacy of our existing antibiotics and prevent the spread of resistant infections.
Here at Hopkins, Dr. Cosgrove will help lead a team to create antibiotic stewardship programs in hospitals over the next two years.
