It is with great sadness that we share with you the loss of a beloved colleague and friend.
On August 2, 2015, Joanna Markatatos Kaskasian died of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Joanna started her career at The Johns Hopkins Hospital as a nursing student in 1999. She completed her ICU practicum in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and was hired by the unit as a new graduate in February of 2000.
During her fifteen-year tenure in the MICU, Joanna proved to be a vital mentor and integral part of the leadership team. She has precepted countless numbers of nursing students and staff, implemented educational workshops and taught at unit-based annual reviews; even painting and drawing her own educational guides.
She also took pride in her own education and remains the only MICU nurse to earn two specialty certifications in acute/critical care (CCRN) and wound care (CWCN).
The only thing Joanna loved more than nursing was her family. Joanna is survived by her husband, Bedros, and their three young children: Isabella (5 years), Jacob (3 years) and Gabriella (11 months).

Her funeral took place on Thursday, August 6 at the Saint Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
