W. Daniel Hale, Ph.D., special advisor to the president at Johns Hopkins Bayview, director of the Healthy Community Partnership and an assistant professor in the Division of Geriatrics, was awarded the Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman Trust Award at a special ceremony in November.
Gail McKnight Beckman created the Beckman Award in memory of her mother, Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman, an educator, author and pioneer in the field of psychology. It benefits teachers who have inspired their former students to make a significant contribution to society.
Dr. Hale was nominated for the award by his former student Panagis Galiatsatos, M.D., co-founder and co-director of Johns Hopkins Bayview’s Medicine for the Greater Good.
“Dr. Hale’s guidance and mentorship provided me with key insights into the impact one can make in working with the community to overcome health inequities,” says Dr. Galiatsatos. “He continues to be my mentor and colleague, but also a friend. He is a significant reason why I believe I can establish a career as a physician-citizen.”
