The event, entitled Responsible Authorship: Best Practices and Avoiding Trouble, will feature presentations by Gordon Tomaselli, chief of the Division of Cardiology, co-director of the Heart and Vascular Institute and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Clinical Investigation; and Dan Raben, professor of Biological Chemistry, Physiology and Oncology, and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes. Drs. Tomaselli and Raben will share first-hand accounts of real-world examples of inappropriate authorship practices including figure/data re-use and plagiarism. Dr. Tomaselli will share his perspective as the editor-in-chief of a major biomedical journal who handles authorship issues on a weekly basis and Dr. Raben will share his perspective as a senior member of the faculty who discovered that work from his group was plagiarized. This session will also include the opportunity to learn more about authorship guidelines and responsible authorship practices.
