The Department of Medicine Civic Engagement Committee would like all of our faculty, staff and trainees to consider attending this Journeys in Medicine session on Tuesday, October 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Unfortunately in the first half of 2017, our medical care teams have reported more incidents of intolerance and patients making derogatory comments or requesting a provider change due to race, ethnicity and/or religion. In this Journeys in Medicine session, Joe Carrese, professor and chair of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Ethics Committee, will lead us through an interactive session where we will role play various scenarios in order to develop the appropriate professional responses to these types of encounters. We will also discuss how the senior members of our care teams can support their colleagues who are victims of targeted patient discrimination and hear from colleagues who have experienced discrimination. We thank you in advance for your participation.
