Beumer Named Division Director

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jan Beumer will serve as the next Director of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, effective January 1.

A nationally recognized leader in cancer therapeutics and pharmacology, Dr. Beumer brings an exceptional record of scientific leadership, innovation, and collaboration to this role. As a Professor of Oncology, he is widely respected for his expertise in anticancer drug pharmacology and the development of novel cancer therapies.

Dr. Beumer currently serves as Director of the Analytical Pharmacology Core within the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, co-leads the JHU early-phase clinical trial consortium, and leads its associated central pharmacology core. He has led pharmacology studies across the full continuum of drug development, from preclinical research through Phase III clinical trials. His work has contributed to advancing promising therapies from the laboratory to patients, helping drive innovation in cancer care and research.

Before joining Johns Hopkins in November 2024, Dr. Beumer was a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and Cancer Therapeutics Program co-leader at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held numerous national leadership roles, including service with the National Cancer Institute's Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network and National Clinical Trials Network. In these capacities, he has helped shape and advance cancer drug development and clinical research efforts nationwide.

Dr. Beumer's experience building high-performing research programs, mentoring investigators, and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration positions him exceptionally well to lead the Division of Clinical Pharmacology into its next chapter of growth, discovery, and impact. We are excited to welcome Dr. Beumer into this leadership role and look forward to working together to advance the Division's mission.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Charles Flexner for his outstanding service as interim director since January 2025. The Division's continued success throughout this leadership transition is a testament to Charlie's steady guidance and the dedication of our faculty, staff, and trainees.
