Emerging Infectious Disease Symposium

On February 20, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health, The Johns Hopkins Hospital hosted the state’s first-ever Emerging Infectious Disease Symposium. The event had over 450 attendees with healthcare workers from every county in the state. It kicked off with two keynote talks from Drs. Ian Crozier and Noreen Hynes, associate professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, with a discussion on the active Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak that started in Wuhan, China. The event also included breakout sessions covering topics such as waste management, legal and ethical considerations and screening tool development. We look forward to developing more opportunities like this in the coming years.
