Nominations Open for Alpha Omega Alpha

The Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) chapter at Johns Hopkins is pleased to continue our pilot program to select up to 5 Alumni Faculty and 10 Faculty and/or Part-time faculty this academic year class for induction. Faculty must have been at Hopkins for at least three years to apply.

We are writing to invite you to consider nominating yourself. We are looking for top faculty candidates that embody clinical excellence, service, teaching and who are "worthy to serve the suffering."  If you are interested, please send your name and email address to [email protected] by Sunday, 6/8. To be more balanced we are also asking departmental chairs to nominate the top faculty along with soliciting self-nominations from faculty members.

Selection Process:

After Monday, 6/2, our AOA chapter will provide all nominees with instructions on how to provide the required application elements: 1) a maximum 500-word impact statement in one or more of the following domains: scholarship, leadership, and/or service, 2) a brief personal history describing their journey through medicine (maximum 250 words), as well as 3) a standardized letter of reference focused on clinical excellence completed by a faculty member with direct knowledge of the nominee’s clinical work and 4) demonstration of teaching excellence (one letter of support from a learner) and teaching evaluations (no more than 2 pages).

There will be volunteer AOA mentors (faculty and house staff) available to assist any nominees with their submission upon request.

A selection committee composed of AOA and non-AOA faculty, AOA residents, inter-professional colleagues (social work, nursing), and community members (from the Patient Advisory Committee) will review blinded submissions.

Please see documents linked below for the overall timeline, and an information sheet for additional information, including domain definitions. Please contact AOA Councilor Dr. Rachel Salas ([email protected]) and Co-Councilor Kamna Balhara ([email protected]) with questions (neither will serve on the Selection Committee).
