Dr. Jessica Colburn, associate professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine & Gerontology, is joining the newest class of American Geriatrics Society (AGS) Fellows, an elite group of healthcare professionals committed to leading care for older adults. AGS Fellows represent a distinguished cohort of geriatrics experts recognized for a deep commitment to advancing high-quality, person-centered care for all older adults. Each year, a small contingent of highly qualified AGS members earn fellowship status following a rigorous application process, which includes assessing everything from continuing education and public service to geriatrics scholarship and healthcare leadership.
Dr. Colburn’s clinical and educational research focuses on primary care of older adults and teaching learners to care for them. She’s the director of the Geriatrics Fellowship Program and of the Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program, an educational initiative in geriatrics whose purpose is to collaborate with academic, primary care, and community partners to develop an integrated primary care age-friendly and dementia-friendly workforce that engages older adults and caregivers, inspires trainees to work in underserved and rural communities, builds a diverse workforce, addresses social determinants of health and health inequities, and improves health outcomes for older adults in Maryland. She is also the co-director of the Beacham Annual Current Topics in Geriatrics CME course, the nation’s longest-standing continuing medical education course in geriatric medicine.
