Mike Franitza has been named Assistant Administrator for Finance and Operations in the Department of Medicine, effective May 18.
In this role, Mike will oversee the accuracy and timeliness of faculty hiring and compensation processes and provide operational support to divisions. He will work closely with DOM divisions to identify opportunities to enhance financial performance and support the achievement of organizational goals.
Mike joined Hopkins and the DOM in 2014 as a financial project manager, where he led budgeting, financial operations, and compliance efforts across the Department and its divisions. He also served as a key liaison for the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, and the DOM to ensure effective funds flow, policy adherence, and completion of institutional deliverables.
Mike joined the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology in 2021. Beginning as Finance Manager, he was promoted to Assistant Administrator for Finance and successfully led an integrated finance and sponsored team. As assistant administrator, he guided strategic business planning for Maryland and the National Capital Region, ensuring optimal resource allocation, effective faculty compensation management, and compliance with institutional policies. Through targeted operational improvements and service line optimization, he strengthened clinical scheduling and productivity, and increased procedures, infusion treatments, and patient encounters.
Mike holds bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and business administration from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration from the Darden School of Business Administration. He is a Certified Management Accountant and Certified in Production and Inventory Management.
Throughout his tenure at Hopkins, he has demonstrated strong leadership in fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration among physicians, scientists, administrators, and clinical teams—advancing care delivery models, improving resource utilization, and supporting long-term strategic initiatives that strengthen both clinical and academic missions.
With this experience, we are confident in Mike’s ability to lead the DOM’s finance & operational initiatives as the Assistant Administrator for Finance and Operations. Please join us in welcoming him to his new role.

Congratulations Mike on your promotion! Well-deserved and I wish you the best in your new role.
