The Department of Medicine Development Office is off to a strong start as we enter the third quarter of the fiscal year, reaching nearly $11.3M of our $22.68M goal: half of our yearly goal.
- $1M from Mrs. Barbara Cromwell for Dr. John Aucott in the Lyme Disease Research Center.
- $100K from an anonymous donor to the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology to support junior investigators.
- $200K from the George Stone Foundation supporting junior faculty research grants in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
- $10K from the Philip and Barbara Long Family Foundation for the GI Innovation Fund, which provides physician-scientists the time and space to pursue new ideas in the laboratory and in the clinic and fuels translational research.
In December, the Division of Rheumatology and Johns Hopkins Medicine suffered an enormous loss with the death of Dr. Nadia D. Morgan, an outstanding physician, colleague and friend. On January 16, the division held a memorial service where hundreds gathered to celebrate the life of Dr. Morgan. To learn more about Dr. Morgan and the impact she had on Johns Hopkins, click here.
While Dr. Morgan’s tragic death took her from us too soon, her legacy will last forever. To honor Nadia’s life and the impact she made in the Division of Rheumatology, we are announcing the establishment of the Dr. Nadia D. Morgan Memorial Fund. This endowment will support a lectureship focusing on the impact of African ancestry on the manifestations and course of the rheumatic diseases, and fund support for fellows to attend national meetings in their areas of interest.
