Irvin and Page Selected for JHM Levi Watkins, Jr. Mentorship Program

Drs. Risha Irvin and Kathleen Page, associate professors in the Division of Infectious Diseases, have been selected as “Protégés” for the inaugural JHM Levi Watkins, Jr. Mentorship Program. This program is for high potential, high performing leaders in JHM; and is intended to honor the work of Levi Watkins, Jr., M.D. who was a pioneer in both cardiac surgery and civil rights. He dedicated his personal and professional life to enhancing diversity and inclusion at Johns Hopkins and in communities across the country.

The Johns Hopkins Medicine Levi Watkins, Jr. Mentorship Program is focused on identifying and developing hidden and high potential leadership talent, particularly underrepresented groups, within JHM. The program will run from September 2021 to June 2022. It is a blended development process involving monthly mentor meetings, individual action planning, access to a digital interactive platform, assessment instruments, and group meetups.

As a Protégé, they will participate in a talent strategy to encourage professional growth and increase the development and retention of high performing and high potential leaders arising from underrepresented groups. The program aims to support next generation career development, creating opportunity for greater exposure of hidden talent, and exploration of career aspirations.  This inaugural program will help to guide the direction of future mentorship efforts.
