W. Tabb Moore, who passed away in 2025, left a substantial gift in his will to endow the W. Tabb Moore, M.D. Fund for Medical Education in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. Dr. Moore graduated from our School of Medicine in 1959, and later in his career he returned to Hopkins, where his notable influence was shared by Paul Ladenson: “Our division was fortunate, indeed, when Tabb Moore returned to Johns Hopkins in 1998 after a distinguished 40-year medical career in Washington. Over the next two decades, he had an enormous impact on so many young physicians’ careers and lives. Tabb was uniquely gifted in his ability to convey not only the latest medical knowledge, but also the art of practicing medicine. He exemplified for our fellows the bearing of an outstanding physician.”
The endowment will be used to support the Division’s annual W. Tabb Moore Visiting Professorship and the Tabb Moore Teaching Award, in addition to other education programs and activities. “We are extremely grateful for Dr. Moore’s generous gift, and I look forward to continuing to acknowledge his tremendous legacy as a teacher and mentor. The endowment will allow us to support education for our trainees in perpetuity, and—perhaps more significantly—Dr. Moore’s name will continue to be prominent in the Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism division,” said Dr. Rex Ahima, professor of medicine and director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.
