Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Americans, and this statistic is what motivates the American Heart Association (AHA) to continue pursuing efforts to reduce this disease’s impact on our lives. The AHA’s annual Heart Walk, on Saturday, October 8, 2016, helps fund these efforts.
Johns Hopkins has long been a corporate partner to help raise awareness, funds and walkers for the Heart Walk. This year, the JH family has a collective target of $174,500, and we’ve set a departmental goal of raising $20,000.
We need team captains to recruit 15 walkers (coworkers, family, friends, etc.) and raise $1,000+. Being a team captain does not need to be a laborious effort—in fact, there are many ways to make it fun (and we’ll help)! As an incentive, team captains whose teams raise $1,000 will be entered in a lottery to win one of three passes for a month of free parking! Keep an eye out for other enticing incentives both from the DOM and the AHA.
Did you know the Department of Medicine greatly benefits from the AHA—having been awarded grants valued more than $5.7M over the past five years? With the AHA, the DOM and Johns Hopkins are rallying together to fight heart disease, but we need your help to press on! Please consider becoming a team captain by emailing Slesha Patel ([email protected]) and/or Jordan Hughes (or [email protected]) or sign up to walk under one of the already created teams:
